Aviation/Aerospace 1: WEATHER PRESENTATION
You will research a type of weather phenomenon and create a short power point presentation.
Requirements:
PowerPoint
10 slides minimum
5 slides must contain text
Graphics should be appropriate to the topic
Topic must be related to aviation
Include:
Causes of the phenomenon
How it affects an airplane in flight or on the ground
How a pilot might recognize the phenomenon
Does detection equipment exist for the pilot or ATC to use?
How a pilot might recover if the phenomenon adversely affects the airplane
Is it preventable/avoidable - if so, how?

You will research and explore a spice or herb for classroom use. Using the links and materials provided you will answer the following questions:

Where does your spice/herb originate from? How does it grow?
What are some products, dishes and or cuisines that are usually paired with this herb or spice?
What other herbs or spices does your herb/spice pair well with?
Does your herb or spice have any non-food functions? How much does this herb or spice cost? Why should someone use it in a dish?

The Kite Runner Research Article #1
Choose from one of the six topics listed below. You are to find an article pertaining to that event. Suggestions are listed with each topic. Try to locate photos if possible.
1) 1985: Half of the Afghan population is now estimated to be displaced by war, with many fleeing to neighboring Iran or Pakistan.
Suggestions:
- Articles about perils of journey out of Afghanistan and into Iran or Pakistan
- Articles about life in refugee camps
- Articles about impact on Iran or Pakistan. How do these countries feel about housing these refugees?
2) 1996: Taliban seize control of Kabul and introduce hardline version of Islam, banning women from work, and introducing Islamic punishments, which include stoning to death and amputations.
Suggestions:
- Articles about resistance in Kabul
- Reaction articles from women
- Articles covering cases where harsh punishments were carried out
3) 1998: Earthquakes kill thousands of people
Suggestions:
- Articles discussing responses from other countries. Who? What did they do?
- Articles covering Afghanistan's response (medical, looting, etc)
4) 2002 (July-September): Vice President Haji Qadir is assassinated by gunmen in Kabul in July. Interim Head of State Hamid Karzai narrowly escapes an assassination attempt in Khandahar in September.

- Articles covering the devastation
5) 2005 (February): Several hundred people are killed in the harshest winter weather in a decade.
Suggestions:
- Articles covering the impact this weather had on crops/famine
- Articles covering the devastation
6) 2006 (May-June): Scores of people are killed in battles between Taliban fighters and Afghan and coalition forces in the south during an offensive known as Operation Mountain Thrust.
Suggestions:

- Articles covering the devastation to the area during the battles (fallen buildings, innocent deaths, etc)
