Business Project - Mr. Barca

You and your partners are going to open a business in Long Beach!!!

Requirements:
1) A typed business plan that gives a summary of the business (2 pages minimum) and answers the questions listed below. It is to be assumed that these businesses will be opened in Long Beach, Lido Beach, Point Lookout, Oceanside or Island Park. Please be sure you address the needs of the community. Your business plan will be addressed to the Business Manager

2) An oral presentation to the class (5-10 minutes). Your job is to sell the idea to the class. Make your classmates believe this is a great idea. You should bring in charts, graphs and an example of the product (if possible). Remember your classmates will be acting as members of the bank. I will make the final approval for the capital to start your business.

3) This is a group project, everyone is expected to participate! Please delegate the work as you see fit.

How will those products be produced (quality/style) business management

Who is going to be the target for your product?

(B) Who will work in your business? Include salary information.

Who will control the money and why?

What type of profits can you expect and why? (Projected income)

(B) Provide any other relevant information necessary.

A completed budget for your new business. You need to show investors how you are going to spend the money.

Fad Diet Project

You and your kitchen will have to put together a meal that is considered well balanced within your diet. You must research and put together 4 different dishes that are both appropriate according to the rules of your diet and within the budgetary and time constraints of our class. You have one class period to accomplish this in the library. At the end of that period I must have four different recipies.

Each recipe is worth 25 points. I will take one point off for every change I make to the recipe so that it follows the rules of the diet and can be made in 42 minutes. This task is being graded as a quiz grade.

Topic: The Role of Disablilities and Disorder in Effective Communication

Assignment: Using the information from class discussion, the articles and film you explored, and the novel The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night, choose one of the following scenarios to base you paper:

A) You have been selected as an advocate for a student with special needs. Your job is to ensure that this student receives the best possible education and opportunities. Some people within the community have expressed concern to the Board of Education in this district about this student attending its school. Your job is to educate the panel about your student's differences and exceptionalities, and to convince them that s/he will not be a liability, but an asset to its student population.

B) You are leading the counter argument to oppose the advocate in situation A.
Your job is to convince the members of the school board in your district that to allow the mainstreaming of this student with special needs is a grievous error.
In fact, you believe s/he should be placed in a special facility designed for those who have disabilities.

In order to formulate your argument, you will need to decide whether you want to write about Autism or choose one of the other disorders that may hinder communication.

Argumentation and Research

Your Assignment: Research one of the topics listed below and use your research to support the scenario that you choose.

Scenario A: You have been elected to be an advocate for a student with special needs. Your job is to ensure that this student receives the best possible education and opportunities. The school board, parents and students have expressed their concern about "your" special needs student attending their school. Your job is to educate the panel about your student's differences and exceptionalities, as well as to convince the panel that the student will be an asset and not a liability in the school's community.

Scenario B: You have been elected to lead the panel of board members, parents, students, faculty and community members advocating that the special needs students represented should be placed in a separate facility or a special needs school and NOT mainstreamed into the public educational system. Within your paper make sure to cite the research that supports your argument.

Searching for Sources

The guidelines are as follows:

You need 3 credible sources - 1 must be a scholarly journal article
Other sources can be books, credible Web Sources, magazine or newspaper articles or an interview with an expert

Why is Wikipedia not a credible source?
Wikipedia, although entertaining and informative cannot be used as a source because the text is changeable by anyone who wants to change it. So although it could contain good information it is not a credible source.
