Working together with a partner you will research one of the following birth defects and answer the following questions:


What is the birth defect?
How does a person get it?
Who can get it?
Characteristics and symptoms of the birth defect
When is the birth defect detected?
What can be done for the child once he/she is born?
Is there a cure for this birth defect?
What are the long term effects of the birth defect on this child?
What community resources are available to help parents to be prepare for a baby with special needs?
Prevention?  How?

Create guided notes to assist your classmates with note taking

Latin American Revolutions Project 10H

By the late 1700's, the revolutionary spirit that engrossed the United States and Europe spread to Latin America. People were dissatisfied with their social and political limitations and began to demand change.

Directions::::  As a group, you will research one of the assigned Latin American countries and become experts about its revolution.  You will then create a presentation (PowerPoint, Prezi, I-Movie etc)  and teach the class about your assigned country.  

Below is a list of the countries to be researched: 

Mexico

Brazil

Haiti 

Venezuela

Argentina 

El Salvador

Dominican Republic  

If there is a Latin American country your group would like to study that is NOT on the list, please let me know and we can discuss it.

In your presentation you must include: 

- A brief biography and a picture of the revolutionary leader(s)
How did he rise to power/position of leadership? In what way did he lead the revolt? How was he a successful leader? How was he an unsuccessful leader?  

- Evaluation of the Revolution
What were the causes (think about social, political, and economic reasons) of the Revolution? How did it begin? What social classes were involved and why? What were some important battles?

- Results of the Revolution
Who became leader, What were the social, political, and econmic results of the Revolution? Explain if you believe the Revolution was successful or not. Please include two maps of your country: one before the Revolution and one after the Revolution.

Individual
Each individual in the group will be responsible for handing in two individual assessments: 
Self Evaluation/Reflection using the project rubric 
1 page written response  to this statement in regard to Latin America
Revolutions:  Do the ends justify the means? Please use specific examples from your research and your class notes from the presentations.

Senior English Project - Destio

The purpose of the Senior English Project is to enable students to affect change in our community.

Ever hear of a type of diet over and over but

don’t really understand what it is?

 

For this project, your group will research a

specific diet, create an informational (8x11)

poster, select a recipe, and

produce a food item according to diet

guidelines.

 

For this project, your group will research one of the

following diets:

 

1)    Paleo

2)    Vegan

3)    Gluten Free

4)    Raw Food

 

For your diet, you will research the following information using the library /computer during class time:

 

1)    What is it?

a.    Describe the main points of the diet. What foods in and what’s out? What cooking methods are utilized or preferred? Is there an origin of the name of the diet?

2)    Pros/Cons:

a.    What are the advantages and disadvantages of following this diet? Consider this question from different perspectives including cost, lifestyle changes, going out with friends/family, health, etc.

3)    History

a.    How long have people used this type of diet? Identify cultures, religions, or groups that have utilized these dietary guidelines in the past. What is the origin of the diet’s name?

 

You will be responsible for:

1)    Creating an 8x11 poster on the computer. It will include:

a.    The name of the diet

b.     At least 2-3 defining characteristics of the diet.

c.    At least 2 pros/2 cons of following the diet.

d.    Historical information

e.    Some relevant images
