You will prepare and give a presentation to your classmates based on your self-evaluation and your research into a specific career. The speech must be 5-6 minutes long and you will be evaluated on both content and delivery.
Approach:
Based on your thoughts on your future at this point, choose a career to research. You will explore the career from several angles as you conduct research and then write a speech where you will make a claim about whether or not this career appears to be a good fit for you.
Research:
Compose 5-10 questions you will need to answer before writing your speech. Here are some examples:
What types of people work in this field?
What kind of secondary and post-secondary education and or training is needed?
How competitive is this field?
Is this career stressful?
The Speech:
Your speech must include a discussion of your interests, strengths, weaknesses, goals etc.
Make connections between the discussion and the career you have chosed to reseach. Describe the career in detail. Discuss what type of person would be right for this career and why you do or do not fit this career choice.
This speech will contain both informative and argumentative content.
Research, outline, write, and rehearse your speech. You may use speaker's notes, but you may not read your speech.
